I just got back to Milwaukee from a visit to Marquette, Michigan on the shores of majestic Lake Superior. What a fantastic part of the country with tons to do - Blueberry Fest, Art on the Rocks and The Outback Air Fair. Not to mention I got to go to the beach EVERY DAY. ALSO, ate great food, laughed my butt off, drank rosé-spritzers on the beach, played with dogs and, the best part, I got to spend some quality time with my brother Drew, my sis-in-law Kari who is the Marquette native and awesome ambassador of her hometown, and their cute and funny kids, Maija and Finnegan. AND AND AND I found some time to paint in Downtown Marquette. I'm not quite done and will have to finish in the studio, but I got to spend two evenings in a "parking space studio" observing the late light and talking to passer-byers. Marquette is on EST so it stays light until about 10pm. Surreal!
Here's a collection of things people said to me or that I overheard:: "HEY! Painter Lady! So, do you just ride around and paint out of your car?" "So, what's your real job?" "Did you paint that?" "Can I look at it?" "Is the pink some sort of back-action?" "Whoa - this wasn't here when we went to dinner an hour ago..."
