Wearing an Everyday Memory Recently, I’ve been intuitively soldering scrap metal at my bench and exploring how to make materials interact with each other to write a story of a place, time, or memory; to keep things that can’t necessarily be kept. While I intended this body of work to be mainly metal-based, it includes media such as fibers, embroidery, images, drawings, paintings, beachglass, moss, lichen, plastic, paint, wood, quartz, and other found objects. Many of these objects were collected on my travels this past year from Northern California beaches to New Jersey beaches, from the mountains of North Carolina to the lakes and rivers of Wisconsin. The act of first noticing and then collecting these objects become a selective process of preserving fleeting moments. They are meant to evoke joy, wonder, nostalgia, and freedom.
