(2015 - Winter) A series of small oil paintings on copper of cityscapes, landscapes, and on-the-roadscapes from Baltimore to Pittsburgh, through Ohio to Chicago and onto Wisconsin. Most of these scenarios are captured while sitting in traffic, walking the dog, walking through a neighborhood, driving on a highway, mostly during late afternoon light. This is my favorite time of day when sharp angles, slivers of light and the low sun create moments that are brief and unique only to that particular time. In contrast, the flat and gray winter landscape, void of light and shadows, forces me to define and exhaust what “gray” really is; to find richness, variety, and harmony within a limited range of values. These paintings become proof of my presence, whenever and wherever it may be as well as mapping my whereabouts.
